I guess I'm going to have to accept it. It makes no difference whatsoever that "impact" is a noun, and only an noun. Not a verb. Worse, "invite" is a verb, only a verb, and never never never never never never never never is, was, or ever will be a noun. But what I will have to accept is that creepy skin-crawl for the rest of my life, because people simply will use those words that way. Dorkfuckers.

edit: "Orientate" is not a word either. It's "orient." Back off, before I invent new epithets, insolent weasels!

But... "impact" has been a verb since 1601. and "invite" has been a noun since 1659.

Estabinus! Estabinus! It's perfectly cromulant!

there you go again, bringing a perfectly good rant to a screeching halt with your documentable facts. Please, for the sake of my sanity, do not disabuse me of my notions regarding "orientate," for then I shall have to stab myself in the ear with an icepick.

Perhaps I should preface this all with "not elegant, sounds icky" rather than "wrong, wrong, wrongety wrong wrong."

At least I don't think I've been taken into spaceships, perhaps you will find that redeeming about me?

I enjoy a good rant about language as much as anyone. Rant away. :) I just can't help correcting factual errors when I see them. It's a reflex.
